Abstract

Abstract

This research intends to study the interconnection between the media, political leadership, and educational reforms in Pakistan. Having observed media influence on political discourse, the present research analyses the role of media in pushing educational policies and reforms with a specific emphasis on the political and educational background of Pakistan. In this regard, the study employed mixed methods comprising content analysis, surveys, and focus group discussions, which generated data from political leaders, media practitioners, and educationists. The study finds that the media does influence political leadership and public opinion, but its coverage of educational reforms is muted, being alternatively overshadowed by political presentations. Even though some major educational policies, such as the Single National Curriculum (SNC), were' registered into public discourse, they attracted little media attention, which resulted in a lack of public consciousness and support for these reforms. The study additionally emphasizes the need for media literacy education, with most respondents pointing out that students need to be trained to engage critically with the content prepared for them in the media; additionally, there is an emphasis that media, political leaders, and educators ought to work together for marketing efforts aimed at educational reforms to be successful. From the results, there is a dire need for an integrated approach to strengthening the media's role in education to support the understanding of reform efforts and gain widespread attention towards the development of the nation.
